Scam Call

Hi. I just received a call from 0204 604 4847. Claiming to be from EE. Sounded like a call centre in India. He said EE are updating their network and in 2 days time, my SIM card will be blocked so they are sending me a new one in the post to arrive tomorrow at no extra cost to me and same number.

Then he wanted to go through security questions and wanted my full name.

Alarm bells went off straight away. I don't normally answer calls I don't recognise but on this occasion I did. Also, why would EE ring to advise this? If they had 2 days to notify countless customers, wow! Busy bees!

I did a Google search on this number and it's linked to Colt Technology Services.

Just thought I would flag it. They may not be after money, but want personal information ie: names, addresses etc

@BeckyBond   They was after your phone number so they could then use that to gain access to more information.  Ie your bank.   They would have ported your number away to a network.

You need to report it by texting CALL to 7726 (SPAM) then forward the number when prompted.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

@BeckyBond  From this line you put “He said EE are updating their network and in 2 days time, my SIM card will be blocked”.   EE or any network doing any network upgrades will not affect your SIM card in such a way at it needs to be replaced. If this is as the case it’ll cost EE thousands to replace all customers SIM cards.   You did the right thing by hanging up.

I would also change your EE password.   The scammer was pretending to be you and was already accessing EE to get a one time password which would have been sent to you and then you give them that code thinking it was a genuine EE agent.      If ever you receive a call/text/email with anything asking you to provide login information take it as a scam.  No service provider will ever contact you then request login information.  They already know who you are if genuine as they called you.   If in doubt always call them on a number you know is genuine.

Yes, but not with any hint of disconnection, cancellation or being blocked.

@XRaySpeX  and you’ve also upgraded to have 5GSA and a sim would be sent out
You wouldn’t get a call stating the above.
