Potential scam text

Becca54

I received a text saying it was from -EE- when I go to click on the number, no number is coming up. It said it was a Christmas giveaway to say Thankyou, had a EE video, it was addressed to me and used my name and then said:

To say thank you for being a customer, we have thousands of e-vouchers up for grabs from the UK’s top brands - including John Lewis & Uber - with our Christmas Countdown Giveaway. Plus, tickets to some of next year's biggest gigs in London.

To enter, simply update your marketing preferences to hear from us in more ways here: https://discover.ee.co.uk/XmasAdvent_Calendar/A6l1n2 and never miss the latest news, offers and updates. Opt in before 24th November to receive your advent calendar.

Terms apply. Text STOP to 2040 to opt out from all text message marketing.

Is this a scam?

Hi @Becca54,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

I can confirm that is a genuine message from EE.

I have received the same text. I will look for marketing preferences in My EE and see what happens. Not clicking link.

It's using a legitimate EE website domain, and that text looks genuine to me.

2040 is also a standard EE opt-out shortcode.

I’ve had the same I’m suspect because the website is eoi.ee.co.uk and they ask for your number then postcode

Hi,

yeah the website I seen was that aswell. The one I had just asked for name and email though, not postcode.

The one I saw just asked for name and email as well.  I have been speaking to ee help today and it does look like it’s a scam.  As long as you’ve not given them your password or postcode you should be fine.  The frustrating thing is that this came to me via the same EE messages as all my texts come from them so looked legit.
