Phonecall offering new sim card

Westthorn
Visitor

I received a call this morning supposedly from EE. The number calling was 07707297860.

The person calling wanted to send me a new activated 5G sim card as mine was out of date. There had been a number of complaints about the type of card I had and it would be replaced at no charge. Would I be at home to receive a package tomorrow? I said I would pick up the card from my local EE store. Apparently, according to the caller, that would mean I would need to pay for the card. I terminated the call and blocked the number.

Is this a scam or a legitimate EE number?

Hi @Westthorn

Thanks for coming to our community.

As @Schockwave has said, that isn't listed as a number we would call from. You can see the ways to report any scam calls here Online Security: Avoid and Prevent Scams | EE.

Hello @Westthorn ,

Welcome to the community,

This looks like a scam call, as your SIM card is working perfectly, so no need to change your SIM card and there is no such thing as a 5G SIM card, but a multi SIM card. Quite right to terminate the call, that number does not show on the list of numbers, who may call you from EE or their partners.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.
