Hi
I have had a run in with scammers
got a call from a Tavistock number offering me a too good to be true upgrade. Unfortunately for me i was previously searching the site for an upgrade and thought, wow EE's cookies are working well.
They got in my account and changed my password and email. Placed an order for an iPhone 13 max and messed with my phone plans.
realising I had been scammed called EE to block everything except I get a message from DPD you parcel is out for delivery!!! called again had that stopped
Then get an OTP from EE asking to verify my call to customer services! when I didn't respond I received 15 phone calls and a whatsapp call from a dodgy number with an EE logo
Calls were from Tavistock, Inverness and Bolton
beware

Thanks for making us aware of this, @stupot71.
If you can forward any text messages to 7726 they will be investigated further.

No test messages only calls. The test messages were from EE but calls are from the numbers below

Hi @stupot71
Thanks for coming back to us.
You can report these calls to EE if you have the number, just text 'call' to 7726 followed by a space, then the number that called you, we use the data collected to help protect all of our customers.
Leanne.

Hi,
I've had the exact same thing happen to me today! What a bloody nightmare.
I am currently on hold with EE going through to the fraud team.
EE have said they cancelled the order that these scammers made - I'm just worried they will have somehow gotten my bank details from my account - Did everything work out okay for you?

I'm very sorry to hear this @asky1992
I would suggest contacting your bank to let them know and changing any passwords that you use the same email and password combination for.

Hi
yes the order got cancelled but no they didn’t get any bank details. The annoying part they changed my password on my EE account and email address!!!
be warned they are persistent. Once they realise you have cancelled they will keep calling different numbers so much so I got fed up and answered and told them I know it was a scam and even then the woman told me the phone will still be delivered!!! It was quite amusing to mess with them

Hi thanks so much for replying!
Yes thank god I didn't give any bank details. I spoke to EE and they explained the scam to me.
Basically they call you to offer an upgrade, right after you browse for updates on the EE website, not sure how they find this out! Then offer you an amazing deal and take your details like address, email address date of birth. Then the scammers call EE pretending to be you and ask for an upgrade. EE verifies that it's you by taking the details you gave the scammers and sending you a verification code and asking the scammers for the code. The scammers then quickly call you and say "we've just sent you a code to confirm your order, please tell me the code". Then they give the code to EE and EE are then confident the scammers are in fact you and make the order.
Then if you don't realise its a scam, when the order arrives at your house they call you and say they signed you up to the wrong plan (mine was a £75 a month plan when the scammers told me I was getting a £20 a month plan) and ask you to return the phone to an address where they pick up the phone and run, OR they ask to collect it and one of the scammers comes to your house to take the phone and run.
What awful people!

I became a victim of a similar case((
How does the company solve it and does the victim pay the full cost of the phone?
Thx.

Hi @Save
Have you had a phone sent to you and a new contract set up?
If so, have you reported this to our mobile care team and also your bank if any account details for payment were provided?
Leanne.
