I think someone is using my number as a spoof to contact people, is there anything I can do to stop this ?
I have had 2 random people today call me saying they have missed a call from me (I havent made any calls yet today)
And I had a couple a few weeks ago too saying the same thing
I don't particularly want to get my number changed as its a pain
Thanks

you’re basically saying they don’t have the software/tech to be able to show the correct number that is calling them
CLI integrity, by its nature, is an industry-wide issue. All operators work to the same standards.

When a digital phone call is made (eg from a phone exchange) then the phone exchange is set up to send out a "calling number".... so, imagine we own the numbers 123400 to 123499. We can then set things up so that if anyone in sales makes a call, it will come from the sales department number, 123444. Management will have their DDI number sent, everyone else will appear to come from the "switchboard number".... let's make that 123400.
So, no longer using ISDN, we move into VOIP, where is a lot simpler to "have your own exchange". And I can configure my outgoing number in the same way.
So, I'm a hacker: I configure it to send out YOUR EE number. EE isn't at all involved in the call, so there's no way they can do anything. And it's the internet, it's not regulated, so who is going to check that the hacker isn't using a wrong "calling number" ?
In many ways, this is no different from a hacker sending an email that appears to come from you.

So the hacker is just typing in any number using their system? And it just so happens to be my number that they’re using?
Why would they be using my number? i’m not involved in anything unscrupulous.
Also the people receiving the calls are only called for a couple of seconds, and when they pick up the line just goes dead?

I receive a lot of calls from people saying I've called them when I havent. I block them...but my 17yr old daughter has also had this happen to her. She had a call from a man, he said she'd called him when she hadn't, and when she tried to explain to him she hadn't called him and that she didn't even know him, he became verbally abusive towards her. This upset her immensely. I told her to block his number, and I've explained to her not to answer calls from numbers she doesn't know, but this still shouldn't of happened. There are many young children with mobiles these days, and I'm sure their parents wouldn't want strange people ringing their children and being abusive to them down the phone for something beyond their control. There should be more done by mobile phone companies to stamp spoofing out. They are quick enough to take our money to pay for these expensive new mobiles, and services, so why don't they act just as quick to stamp out this problem...!
