Hi.. today I received a call from a very similar number to mine just a couple end digits off.. the guy said he was returning a call I just made to him (which I hadn't) and then I told him I had not called him and he said OK no worries bye.
Thinking this was an anomaly of some sort I went on with my day.. then when I was away from my phone around an hour later another different number very similar to mine I have a missed call from.. no message left.
I am not sure what the scam could be here..is someone else somehow using my number to call people?

I have received two calls recently claiming to have missed call from my number. Has my details been compromised?

Had two calls recently claiming they have missed calls from me. Is EE investigating this as it seems to be happening to quite a few people? I would rather change my network if it means getting a new number.

This is discussed in great detail in Calls from similar number

Linnym.. read Leanne_T's post above. This is number spoofing and affects all networks. Changing your network won't get rid of the problem I'm afraid. I had a couple of these recently and just blocked them and deleted them, no trouble since.

This is happening to me too - starting on 14th May 2021 and the latest in the last 20 minutes. This is deeply distressing - I thought I had a stalker and was about to call the police. I've already had to block "no caller ID" calls on the advice of EE staff in town.
This really needs sorting out as a matter of urgency.

Sooner you guys realise this is a dead thread the better. Number spoofing happens across all networks all providers. There is no point reporting a spoofed number, because its probably someone's genuine number!!!
Why is it so hard to understand?

Hi @mdc1983uk maybe we all just think there is no harm in reporting it. It’s also quite good to know that i’m not the only one 😉

@Geee Sure if it makes people feel better or encourages the phone networks to change the archaic systems that allow this problem to exist but they are already aware of and do little about this global problem.
In reality reporting numbers that call from a few different digits to your own just puts some innocent person on a list and before long every number will be on that list and the whole system will be full of false positives and pointless. That's if it isn't already and why nothing has been done.
How annoying will it be when genuine calls/texts are rejected because people get spoof blocking and all our numbers have been reported previously? I guarantee that for every time someone gets a call saying "you rang me who are you?" at least one other person has already ignored and reported it for ringing them also. Then others ignore and report the curious people ringing back because they see it is a similar number. You see where i'm going with this? It's a catch 22 and the spoofers have already won because it is impossible to sort the wheat from the chaff. Reporting is nothing more than placebo for well meaning but misguided people plus it's a way for the networks to appear to be doing something!!

Fair enough @mdc1983uk i see your point. Being honest it’s the first time i have experienced this on such a level in such a short space of time and squashed in the middle of the calls was one from Russia. I’ve been with ee for many years now and haven't had this many before. I just googled it on the off chance and this thread came up.
As i mentioned before it was more of a relief that others were getting similar calls so was quite thankful that others had reported it even if it means nothing will get done.
The calls have actually stopped now, so, until next time 😬
Thanks

Hi,
I’ve had this number for probably 10 years I do not want to change my number! I was left an abusive voicemail from one of these numbers that looks like mine telling me my number has been forward to the police and that she will strike me down if she ever meets me! I really hope EE can offer more support than this for its customers. I am getting around 5 calls a day all different numbers that look like mine, I’ve blocked some but a new one calls instead! And whenever I answer the line is dead. Please can this seriously be looked into I’m 8 months pregnant and don’t appreciate threats over voicemails!!!
