I requested to have my number transferred from my current provider, instead i have been sent a new sim with a new number.

Welcome to the community unity,
If you have provided the PAC code to EE, then you will first have a new SIM card with a new number, but your number will be transferred, it depends when you did this, as nothing will happen over the weekend. You will see that your number from your previous provider on the SIM card from previous provider will then be disconnected and you should then reboot your phone and your number will have transferred and you should then get a text saying transfer completed.

i did provide the pac code but the sim ive been sent has a completely different number on it.

That's right! Your old no. will be ported to it within 1 working day from when you activate that SIM on EE's mobile network. It's now the w/end. So it won't happen until Mon. or Tues.
