difficulty with new sim

i was sent a new sim. my old phone was not suitable for the new sim so i obtained a 4g phone and put the new sim in that. the new phone works fine except i can't make phone calls. i have tried to activate the new sim but no luck. now my old phone seems to have lost service so i am paying ee for a service i can't use. what can i do

Is your 4G phone purchased from EE or is it unlocked to all networks?
