Transfering phone number to different provider

Just after a bit of  help easiest quickest way to get an ee phone number changed to another provider due to ongoing problems no connection etc because of "mast problems waiting for upgrade and repair"
Phones payg worked fine for 6 years but as its an elderly ladies phone thats had barely any connection for last few weeks Im after quickest way to get another account sim for her iphone WITH HER NUMBER USED ON THIS SIM keeping number from  this ee account is most important
  just been going around in circles with EE department to department as everybody at this  postcode is at moment about when repair will be carried out etc so and help TIA
