Switching to Esim abroad

I have gotten a new phone (Google Pixel) while abroad and want to switch my PAYG sim from physical to ESim as I need the physical slot for another sim. When I go into my EE app, there is no way to do this. Is it even possible?

Hello @kyrabakshian ,

Welcome to the community,

Unfortunately, that will not be possible, you can only do this in the UK, as the ESim needs to be activated here.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.

No, it is not possible. You can't have an eSIM on PAYG.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I have the same eSIM question with the same device, and I am also abroad and need my single physical SIM slot on my Pixel 7 Pro for a Filipino SIM. However I am not on PAYG, I am on contract.

I note that apple iPhone 14 can activate an eSIM from 100 different countries, but I don't know if there are more restrictions with EE. See link https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT213448

Hi @leongodwin

Thanks for coming here.

The eSIM would need activating in the UK on the EE network, we can't guarantee this would work when you are roaming on another network.

Leanne.

That is not correct.
