OK - a little bit of a strange one here.
We took out an additional line last week - all went well and we received the SIM on Wednesday. Obviously we were given a number to use with the new SIM. As soon as we were setup, we started the porting process.
Within 24hrs this was completed - ported in from Vodafone via PAC and everything is fine.....except:
Her mum is on Tesco mobile, if she sends a text or calls her mum - her ported number appears.
Her brother is on Vodafone, if she sends a text or calls him - her ported number appears.
I'm also on EE - if she calls me, then her ported number pops up and matches with her contact. However, if she texts me, her temporary number appears as the sending number. If I try to reply to her text, the message fails to send - instead I have to text her actual (ported) number and they get through.
So a text conversation with my wife goes:
She texts me - it appears from the number that EE gave her with the SIM.
I then open the conversation with her actual number and reply.
She sends another reply, still says it is coming from the temporary number
I have to open the other conversation to reply.
So we have two text conversations, one, from her temporary number with all her replies only and one, with her ported number, with all my replies.
Any ideas?

Hi @SoufferTheCat,
The phone will have picked up the temporary number and registered it with the RCS service automatically.
RCS messages are sent using a data connection, rather than the SMS service like standard texts.
Updating the number stored in the phone's settings will resolve the issue, but not all phone's allow you to change it manually. A replacement SIM can also resolve the problem.
Hope this helps. 🙂

Hi @SoufferTheCat,
If your wife turns off Google Chat/RCS messaging in her messaging app, does it resolve the issue?

Yes, it does.
So what is RCS chat doing that is causing the wrong number to appear?
I seem to remember having to turn off that feature or something similar when I first got my S21 as I was having text messages not being delivered - until I dropped to standard SMS.

Now you can do SMS over WIFI calling I can see no reason either of us would want to use RCS - we'll stick to SMS!
Cheers.

Hi James, Is there any way of disabling RCS Chat as a feature so the end user can only uses SMS service .
We are seeing this EE network still seeing temporary number, more often on the Future Mobile product.
It would be good to be able disable the device from picking the temporary number during any Porting activity and registering with the RCS service automatically.
regards Pete

Hi @petegriff957,
Welcome to the Community!
As RCS is an Android feature, we're not able to disable this for customers, but if you would like to disable this on your device then you absolutely can do.
Rach
