Cannot activate brand new payg sim

I have received a brand new pay as you go sim which I am planning to use in a 4g camera in my lambing shed. I am an existing EE customer and already have a payg sim for my daughter. I have gone through the activation steps for both of the sims that were sent to me and neither will work, I just get a message saying “well that didn’t work”. Any suggestions? I don’t have a lot of time on my hands as I and busy lambing and need the camera working yesterday!
