I'm in Australia, have bought 7 day passes to use my phone as in the UK, can't send texts or make any calls, driving me nuts trying everything possible in settings to fix this, no joy, can't even contact EE to discuss problem, anyone out there got any suggestions or suffered the same, thanks

Did you receive a Welcome text upon arrival?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

Hi, activated roaming whilst in UK, received text immediately upon arriving in Australia, bought 7 day pass which should enable my phone to operate as if I was in UK, can access data, no txt or calls, can't call EE to have a moan up, have tried every conceivable option within cellular settings to no avail, have contacted EE through the complaints section within my account, not holding my breath on response, time difference not helping either, much appreciate your prompt response to my original question, cheers, will advise if I get any satisfaction, will check on my account to see status on roaming, many thanks for your help

Can you be more specific about which settings you've tried?

The relevant one would be to do a manual network search, cycling through each local network. See if the symptoms are the same.

Roaming is self-evidently active because you've received a text message thus have a local network connection. Are you using an Apple or Android phone?

Hi, using an iphone, my dilemma has now been resolved, you are correct, I turned off automatic network selection and was able to find the best local signal, managed to contact EE using a borrowed phone, spoke to the tech people and was informed that they had a glitch on their system, so hopefully that will reflect in my next bill, and get a refund on the time I've lost, many thanks to all who responded, all is good for now, cheers
