Was told I can upgrade to a full roaming contract

Hi

recently transferred from BT to EE and in the process was told I could, for £4 a month more, temporarily upgrade my non roaming contract to a roaming one.
I’m off to Netherlands ( from UK) via France & Belgium.
I have unlimited data, and would like this in these countries, rather than paying for an add on for each country or whatever.
I checked several times with the chap doing the swap over and he was adamant this was perfectly fine and no issue.

How would I best go about doing this? I’m only there for 6 days.
 Cheers in advance

To say definitively, take a look at the info in the final 2 paragraphs of my previous response to check whether this applies to you or not, specifically whether you have only joined EE Mobile within the last 6 months, or have been an EE Mobile customer on the same account for longer than this?

If you're beyond the 6 month mark with your EE Mobile tenure, what you've mentioned would be possible - just upgrade to an EE One Essentials Plus UL plan at £17.50pm on a 1-month contract period, and then after being on that plan for a month you can go back down again to your EE One Essentials UL plan at £14.50pm. This will likely cross over multiple billing periods with some unsteadiness in the short term but the charges will balance out in the end.

If you've been with EE for your mobile for less than this 6 month period it will not be so simple, and I would really advise getting in touch with Customer Services if that is the case.

Which EE mobile plan are you on?

There is a FUP of 50GB data / billing month for roaming however your roaming charges are covered.

If you do have to buy an EU roaming pass it is valid thro'out EU, so you don't buy 1 for each country.

You may use your usual UK allowances in the EU with up to 50 GB (contract) or 25 GB (PAYG) data per billing month if you have more. If on contract & your contract started after 07/07/2021 there'll be a £2.59 / day charge for using your UK allowances in EU unless you buy the 7-day EU Pass for £15 or you already have it as an Inclusive Extra or you have an EE All Rounder or Full Works Plan.

As you are on contract, just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before leaving UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your no.

@MrContainer   Just to add to @XRaySpeX advice above, Essentials Plus plans also have no-charge EU Roaming included, as well as the All Rounder and Full Works plans already mentioned.

I noticed you mentioned that the Guide said that you could "temporarily" switch to one of these plans - normally this would work if you are on an EE One tariff with a 1-month rolling contract as you could upgrade for a month and then "upgrade" back down again.

However - if you are a brand new EE Mobile customer there is usually a period for the first 6 months where you would be unable to upgrade to any other plan, essentially being frozen in place on your existing plan until you've paid 6 months of bills.

If you believe this to be the case, the best advice would be to contact EE Customer Services on 150 and see if there is anything they can do for you.

Thanks for the replies! I’m not sure what contract exactly I’m on… unlimited everything, 1 month rolling, sounds familiar .. EE One Ess UL 1 month on the bill….
so can I upgrade for June and drop back again for July?
50Gb would be ample. It’s only a bit of Facebook, emails and WhatsApp …
