Travelling to the US

I was hoping someone could help as I'm getting a bit confused.

I'm travelling to the US in 2 weeks time and I'm trying to wrap my head around the process.

It is a case of texting ROAMING to 150 before I go then I'll get an automated text when I land in the country. If so, once I get the text what happens? Do I need to be using EE data when doing this process (will it cost be more as I'm not in the UK).

I think I basically need someone to break it down step by step if possible.

Also I'll be in the US for just over 7 days, is possible to go for the 7 day plan then add another day to this while out there.

Morning @JosephA122

Thanks for coming to the community 🙂

The welcome text will have a link for you to select the roaming pass.

Our Roaming Refresh page has full details on the roaming pass and what happens when you arrive in your destination.

Have an amazing time 🙂

Leanne.

The process falls into two parts, and you seem to have this nailed...

1: Your SIM needs roaming enabled, to allow access to foreign networks and thus avoid a lack of coverage. This is done by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK. With foreign network access enabled...

2: You can choose a billing add-on when you arrive, or pay per-usage charges. Yes, you can choose a 7day pass and then bolt-on a daily pass when that expires.

You can only use mobile data if you have an add-on, and if you've chosen the weekly or daily pass, then your UK allowances apply in the US - with data subject to a 50GB FUP. Without an add-on, calls & texts can be charged individually.

This only applies if you're on contract. On PAYG you will have to had used your SIM in the UK beforehand. Also there will be no 1 or 7-day roaming passes. Instead you will pay calls or texts on a per-unit rate.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Thank you.

One last question, when you arrive in the country then how does it work when you receive the message from EE.

Is it a text with a link where you can find the different travel pass options. Or do you simply go into the EE app and go to the travel pass which should then give you the option to enable the relevant package (if I go into this section on the app it says I can’t do this until in the country).

I just want to double check before flying. I’m also on contract at the moment.
