Signing in is a total nightmare

I have spent the last 24 hours trying to sign in on my phone so I could add a roaming add-on, since I landed in a new country.

I have gone through about 12 rounds of double factor auth (each time I sign it makes me do email AND phone number, and then sometimes the app just doesn't refresh and I'm stuck in the login box). I tried password reset but then it got angry that I'd tried too many times. I said yes to setting up some kind of sign in key thinking that would make it easier, but now when I try to sign in on my phone it just presents me with a QR code that I'm supposed to scan...I tried screenshotting it and following it from my phone but now it's trying to connect 2 different devices or something??

Why is this such a nightmareish circle, it's 2026 and I can't just do a quick thing to add roaming data?

Last time I tried responding to the text that says you can add data that way, following the exact instructions, but it didn't even work. 

Also EVERY time I load the app it has signed out again so I have to go through this palaver any time I want to do anything with my account. I will definitely leave EE as soon as I am back home but for now how do I just sign in?????
