Roaming in Turkey

Hello, I will be travelling to Turkey on 18th May for a week and will need to purchase the £25 bolt on to use my data. Do I need to do anything to activate this before I leave the UK? 

Also, I have an extra sim card on my account for my 9 year old son to use in his own phone. He has limited data so I often 'gift' him some of mine throughout the month. Would I still be able to gift him data in Turkey in order for him to use it as normal? Or would I also need to buy the £25 add on for him too? Thank you

Firstly, please make sure that you activate roaming on your account, you can either do this by text or ringing customer service if you have not already done so.

You will receive a welcome message when landing and can then add the £25 for data once you have landed, you do not do this until you have landed, as that is how it is done now.

Is your son going with you or remaining in the UK? Each account has to have roaming enabled on the account, that is why I ask, as for gifting, I do not know the answer, but hopefully someone can answer that for you.

My son will be coming with me. I will activate roaming on his account too.

@sophiet2 , he can always hotspot with you or use wifi whenever it is available to save money.

Ah yes, hotspot is what we can do, I'd forgotten about that, thank you! Apparently the wifi is shocking in the hotel we are going to. So I just want to make sure we have got data for the evening wind down time etc.

Just adding to the brilliant advice from @Schockwave above. 

Hotspot is a fab option to save a few pennies! If you did want to place the add-on onto your son's line also, I'd suggest data gifting before your travels. If you're using the hotspot option, then leave all the data on your line for you both to use. 

Any SIM you want to connect to the network abroad, make sure roaming is active before you jet off. Just text ROAMING to 150 and follow the prompts to set this up. Then there should be no issues when you arrive to receive your landing messages, and select your add-ons.
