So going on a cruise soon. I know I can’t use my data etc while at sea. Re roaming in ports, all ports are EU apart from 1. Am I right thinking I can pre purchase a 7 day pass for EU and also a one day for Montenegro? Or can you only purchase one pass at a time? Many thanks

Hi @Wilkolad
Great to hear you're going on cruise. You'll certainly want to make sure you've covered for roaming while away.
You're able to buy multiple roaming packs that suit your needs best.
Just be aware of the service you're connected to while at port, to avoid inadvertently connecting to the ships network when making a call!

@Wilkolad , just make sure that roaming is enabled on your account. You will find that unless you pay to use your phone on a cruise, you will only be able to use data and calls once near a port or when on land, it will show network when it is available, so no worries whilst out and away from land, where network does not reach the phone.,
@Ali_A , you have to pay to use the ships network for it to work, so unless you decide to connect and pay for the ships network, there is nothing to worry about.

Just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before leaving UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your no.

@shockwave While that is true for a ships WiFi service, many ships provide open mobile network access via satellite.
You are correct that data will not automatically connect though, as a data pass would be needed for roaming abroad. There are no data passes available for ships.
EE mobile use on cruise ships, ferries, and maritime networks is not included in standard UK allowances or roaming passes, meaning user will face high, separate maritime roaming charges unless you connect to land-based networks. Costs can be found at Maritime Roaming| EE

@Ali_A , when I went on a cruise, I had no network except when near land or on land, maybe it has now changed but, I believe you have to pay for it to work, otherwise there is no network available, unless near land or on land, and this was how it was last year, and unless you pay for it to get hooked up to it, I believe satellite will not work, unless something has changed.

For roaming to work, you need 1: An available network to connect to, 2: Have the roaming facility enabled on your SIM, and 3: Have spend cap available to cover the costs, or an add-on in-place.
A network doesn't alter its availability as to whether you've paid or not. This is true for all roaming, whether land-based or maritime-based.
