How do I know if I’m using mobile data abroad?

Is there anywhere on the EE app or on the website that shows if I’m using mobile data at the moment? I’m currently in Spain.

If your phone has a WiFi connection, it will almost certainly be using that for data. If not, it will be using mobile data.

Check your phone's connection settings for whether an active WiFi connection is shown.

Your phone's Mobile Data Usage should tell you.

Are you on contract or PAYG?

That’s the thing, if I look at mobile data usage it says I have x GB remaining with one day to go but doesn’t show if I have used mobile data abroad

 so I’m not sure

It should be showing, at least on Android, a simple graph which you can keep your eye on day-by-day to see if it's rising, as well as the total to date.

That 1 day to go is on the phone's billing cycle which, unless you sync'ed it, won't be the same as your EE plan's.

I have an iPhone and am not seeing a graph

I am using the EE app, maybe there is another app or website which shows it?

Hi @Shaptoni

Is data roaming enabled in your Mobile Service settings? If that is turned on, your phone would be using the mobile network for data services. If it's switched off, it wouldn't be able to.

There is also a 'Current Period Roaming' section within that menu. This lets you know how much data has been used on a roaming network since it was last reset.

Mobile data is switched off now but I don’t know if it was enabled when I sent text messages etc

I am surprised EE don’t warn when you are about to use it abroad

Can you see any charges in your EE Online account, @Shaptoni?

I will see if I can raise this as a feature request
