A daily roaming charge within the EU is incurred any day you use any of your UK allowances.
That means making or receiving any calls, sending any texts or using mobile data.
Outside the EU, the same principle broadly applies - although calls & texts can be used on a per-usage basis, mobile data will only work with a roaming pass.

@PAC53 Yes. But even receiving an email or what’s app message is using your data allowance so if you don’t want the daily charge you’ll need to make sure you don’t have a connection. Ie airplane mode on
