Data roaming not working

Hi, I’m currently in Spain (Majorca) and my iPhone 15 has suddenly stopped working when I’m not on WiFi. I have an EE plan with roaming included and have confirmed roaming is enabled in my account.

I’ve already tried the following:

  • Restarted the phone
  • Toggled airplane mode
  • Enabled data roaming
  • Manually selected different networks (Vodafone ES, Orange ES, Movistar)
  • Reset all network settings

My phone still shows  5g but won’t connect to any mobile network or let me access any apps . Everything works fine when on WiFi, but I can’t use mobile data or make calls/texts when out.

Can you please check if there’s a block or issue with my roaming profile or SIM registration, and re-provision it if necessary?

Thanks very much.

@JDO767 : You speak of data roaming but can you make calls & texts?

Did you receive a Welcome text upon arrival?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before leaving to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before leaving UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. using a web-calling app over WiFi.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

Forget data-specifically, have you been able to roam previously?

To be clear, "data roaming" simply means using mobile data whilst roaming. The phrases are not commonly-used, but you could also refer to "text roaming" or "voice call roaming" if you were so minded.

The question is therefore whether you have been able to use your phone on foreign networks previously? Both in general and on this specific trip - this is all driving at whether roaming is indeed enabled. You refer to your phone "won't connect to any mobile network" which would suggest you cannot roam at all.

In the same vein, what is your basis for saying that "roaming is enabled in my account"?

I was able to access my data until today - so for the last four days not a problem, suddenly today it’s an issue
