Hi,

Read a couple of posts about people with the same problem. I’ve tried Telstar, turning off and on but still can’t make calls to the UK. I can call Australian numbers.

any idea what else I can try? I’ve registered for the passport

cheers

Did you receive a Welcome text upon arrival?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before leaving to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before leaving UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise if you are on contract you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. using a web-calling app over WiFi.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Thanks for your response. I’ve tried all those things.

Skype used to offer free calls to UK 0800 numbers without account credit, but they've closed this a while back. You'll have to search around to see if you can find one, but please do post back if you get success! Otherwise you can call +44 7953 966150 from any working phone.

All of this presumes that the reason your phone won't connect to any Australian networks is because the free roaming facility is not enabled. If you've ever used your phone abroad beyond the EU previously, this is disproved - roaming can be enabled on an EU-only or full-global basis (edited to clarify)
