Using phone abroad

I am currently abroad (I plan to be here for a long time). But I can't make calls or send text messages. Tell me, please, what do I need to connect in order to have this opportunity? 

My sim card is with pay as you go. Maybe I need to connect some more packs or add-ons?

Does your phone show a connection to any local networks in your host country? That's necessary to make & receive calls, or send & receive text messages.

Did you use your phone in the UK before travelling abroad? Or have you recently moved from pay-monthly?

Or have you recently moved from pay-monthly? - my SIM card was immediately after purchase with pay as you go

Hi @Arestes0781. 

We recommend using your SIM in the UK on the EE home network before travelling abroad. 

If you have not used this before travelling your SIM now will not work until you return to the UK.

Do I understand correctly that I will only be able to receive SMS? But I won't be able to make calls and outgoing SMS?

If you didn't use that PAYG SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad, you can't now use it until you return to UK. To be used abroad EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network. You'll be lucky to even receive texts.
