I have a pay-as-you-go pack and I have the following queries: (a) Are spaces counted in the 160 characters allowed in a text? (b) Is my text allowance only for texts I send, or does it also include texts I receive? (c) My credit is charged for texts I send overseas. Is there also a charge for texts I receive from overseas?
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

@Julianx Spaces in text are part of the character count and always have been.
Your text allowance has nothing todo with in coming texts. It’s only sending texts to uk numbers, You’ll be charged for texting to a none UK number and you are not charged to receive them.

Many thanks for your helpful answers.
One other query: my PAYG package includes per minute charges for international calls to landlines and mobile phones. Are there any additional costs, such as connection charges?

In re: (c): International calls & texts to overseas nos. from UK can be rather expensive but EE has a free add-on that anyone, on PAYG or contract, can apply for to give these calls & texts at a fraction of the standard rates. See The Free CALL ABROAD Add-on for Cheap Calls/Texts from UK .
