Receiving SMS messages in Spain

I have a UK PAYG SIM, and for the past couple of months I have been unable to receive SMS messages whilst in Spain.

This is most inconvenient as I require them in order to be able to access my UK online banking account, which sends me OTP codes that do not arrive, leaving me unable to access the account.
I used to receive 'Welcome to Spain' SMS messages from EE, which have also not appeared recently.  These instructed me to buy additional access in order to be able to use roaming in order to send messages and make calls from Spain, but there was no mention regarding receiving them from the UK.

My account is in credit and, as far as I can tell from the EE website, still active.

Any help would be very welcome.

Thanks for your help. My SIM had indeed been put into hibernation. After calling the technical help desk I was able to get my number reactivated (thanks, Alisha). Not sure why I didn't get reminders to keep my number active, but all sorted now.

Cheers.

Receiving texts is free anywhere in the world. You don't need to buy a roaming add on for that.  So it's not that!

Sounds like your PAYG SIM has gone into hibernation.

When did you previously use it for a chargeable action? EE PAYG SIMs are deactivated after 6 months of non-chargeable use. You then have a further 3 months to call EE to reactivate it before it is lost completely.

You needed to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.
