Keep number between top ups

Hi,

I don’t live in the UK so just need my phone a few times a year.  How long between top ups before I loose the use of my SIM card and the associated number. I don’t want to have to get a new number on each visit.

I am in the same position as the original poster, however I was told by EE that I had to top up every 3 months to keep the sim/number active? Are you sure it's 6 months?
