How do I use my data?

Supermew

I'm on pay-as-you-go, and every 2nd time I top up £10, I'm supposed to get 400 texts and 1GB to use the next month. So a few weeks ago I top up, I get a text from EE saying I have 1GB of data. At the start of the month I check the website and it says I have 1GB. But turning on "mobile data" on my phone doesn't do anything. I still can't access the internet away from WiFi. I'm using my free texts, but I can't touch the free data. What do I do?

Hi there @Supermew

Thanks for coming back to us and trying these steps.

If this has not worked, please call us on 150 and the team can get the data connection looked into to see why you're unable to use this at the moment.

Thanks 🙂

Leanne.

@Supermew : That sounds like a free Boost which boosts all packs you buy in the future. Have you bought a pack?

What does texting AL to 150 from your no. fully report verbatim (it is free)?

Also, what does texting BOOST to 150 from your no. fully report?

Hi @Supermew,

Welcome to the EE Community

Based on that text it does look like the data is there available to be used. What type of phone is it you are using and what exactly is happening if you switch mobile data on and WiFi off then try to load google.com for example?

Alex

It's a Redmi Note 11, and when I turn data on and Wifi off I get a black "no internet connection" bar and get sent to the No Internet page with the pixel dinosaur.

@Supermew Have you tried enabling airplane mode for 30 seconds before turning it back off to see if you are then able to connect? If you didn't already try, also restart the phone with data enabled.

Other steps you can try is to reset the network settings in the settings of your phone and also check you have 4G/LTE selected as the preferred network type.

If after trying that its still not working, are you able to test the SIM in another phone to test the data connection? As that will help show if its the phone or SIM having the issue.

Alex

No, none of those worked. I don't have another phone to test the SIM in.

Seems like I'm still on 3g, so I'll need to get my SIM Upgraded.

EE's 3G network was switched off in late 2024, so any 3G phones will be using 2G permanently.
