Data Sim Top Up Issues

Your page at: https://ee.co.uk/bills-payments/mobile/fast-payment needs to be recoded as it DOES NOT WORK.

I have a Data only Sim in my Motorhome used for 4G Booster and Wifi.
Where I am is a very poor connection 4G but the above works fine with the booster.

I ran out of Data - I have no Credit. I wanted to PAY YOU.
Since I have no Data you ask me to get a Wifi Connection and top up....DOH! How can I get Wifi if I have no other means to get Wifi connection.... This is poor guidance.
I eventually got the the page above and waited over 30 minutes for it to try and load. The form loads fine but the reCaptcha does not, so you cannot submit the form. It appears to have trouble with the mass of TLS connections the page is trying to make on a very poor connection.

On my Phone I managed to send a What's App message to my brother with the link / data sim Phone Number and he PAID for me. Thus I am now back up and running and can send THIS message!

Why you have reCaptcha on a page that wants to PAY YOU ANONYMOUSLY is a mystery and not needed.
This page needs to be recoded to make it have far less 'weight' and is slick to download with poor connections (obviously not tested properly). I know about this stuff - my Company Builds Websites.

Apart from this 'moan' I am very happy with EE Data Sim and connections I am getting - wherever I happen to be in my Motorhome.

There is a Moral to this story though - ALWAYS make sure you have enough CREDIT loaded to BUY DATA when it runs out!

Watching with interest having spent two frustrating days trying to add data to the data only sim in our office back-up router!!!  I attempt to add data but need to be on the router to do so, but there's no data.......FOREVER.  Sure, I'd like to add it to my account but EE insist on sending a text validation to the DATA ONLY SIM IN MY ROUTER......sigh.

Adding credit to the sim is another challenge as the payment portal is utterly useless and I am unable to credit the sim as the website is not secure.   I too wish I'd known the data was running low as would have added credit 😞

@EdShed :

  1. Visit http://add-on.ee.co.uk/purchase from a device connected to your mobile router by WiFi to see what data add-ons are available. It is unmetered as its within the EE network, not yet on the Net.
  2. Most mobile routers can receive texts. Login to it & look for the SMS Section/Inbox.

have the same problem - I can't receive a text and I can't get either of the web addresses to work. Is there another solution?

Hi @rochelle10

Welcome to our community.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the options @XRaySpeX has kindly shared. Are you getting any kind of error message when you try and go on them?

Lesley

I did get this to work eventually.

I went here when I WAS actually using the EE SIMcard Wifi:

http://add-on.ee.co.uk/status

This told me what I had in terms of DATA. Then at the top right are 2 links to BUY DATA and then MY DATA.

Key here is BUY first. This is confusing because you then 'think' you have topped up your data... BUT YOU HAVEN'T!

You have to then got to MY DATA and BUY DATA (that you just bought) and it uses your DATA BALANCE to top up the SIM.

This is VERY POOR use of English. After BUYING with MONEY data it should say ALLOCATE DATA to the SIM and not BUY, because it indicates with 'BUY' that you have to buy with money when you don't need to if you have a balance of data.

This took me some hours to figure out having bought data with MONEY TWICE (and confused as to why it was not allocated to my sim).

My Moral to this story is to MAKE SURE there is enough DATA in your ACCOUNT before going somewhere where you have no WIFI. When you are informed you have run out you can allocate more to the sim from your balance. Trying to 'BUY' more data for your account is impossible unless you can get a WIFI connection - from someone/somewhere on some device.

Hope this helps

@calamaster : I think you are mixing up topping-up & buying data.

  1. 1st you have to top-up your credit with money. That just puts money on your SIM ready to be spent but not actually buying anything. Just like money in your pocket or wallet.
  2. Then with that credit you can buy stuff, like data add-ons.

XRAy, you are missing the point and not reading my post. The word 'BUY' is the issue.

To a normal user the word 'BUY' =  Spend Money (real cash)

On EE it means 2 different things

BUY = BUY CREDIT (real money)

BUY = ALLOCATE SOME CREDIT TO SIM CARD FROM CREDIT BALANCE

Should be changed to make it easier to understand.

Also you POST is WRONG.

Point 1. No it does not  - it puts credit on your Account Not Your SIM. Anoter confusing use of terminology.

Who at EE created and failed to test all this. Simple User GUI testing would have thrown up all these issues. Glad my software not his bad, I wouldn't sleep at night - 🙂

My Data 1st invites you to Buy Data which then invites you to Top-up with money if you don't have enough credit to buy data. It's quite logical!

Your SIM is your a/c. I wasn't suggesting you place pennies or half-crowns on top of your SIM 😉.
