Upgrade problem?

Went on the ee app last month, I upgraded to a sim only (thought I did) payed an early upgrade fee, I received an email with a reference number. The next day, I check the ee app, my account is in credit with the early upgrade fee and will be knocked off my next bill, a few days later, it was knocked off my bill. A couple of days ago, I tried again to upgrade to a different upgrade, ee wanted a upfront payment, again, I'm in credit and will go to my next bill. I've tried putting the reference number from my emails for the upgrade into the tracking on the ee app, nothing exists. What is going on?

Thanks for coming here. 

Did the plan change in your My EE account to the SIM Only plan you selected? 

You would not need a new SIM card sent to you.
