Says I need to link my account as it won't let me buy anything. I've joined the ee community but won't allow me to purchase anything instead I get sent to a page to link my account.

You cannot buy an accessory online unless you already have a mobile phone or SIM contract from EE. You are expected to pay for it along with your existing EE mobile plan. That's why it's telling you to login to upgrade your existing plan or add another device. You have neither of these.

You could try buying this outright from an EE store, but not on monthly contract.
