Why do I need a pin number for one of my two phones to access voice mail

I have two phones on my contract, one I use, and the other the wife uses. I have no problem accessing voice mail, and until recently neither did the wife. Now for some reason she is asked for a pin number to listen to her voice mail, WHY ??
