@Awizzbang  You purchased a roaming add on that keeps costs down you haven’t purchased roaming as this isn’t a chargeable feature it’s an option that you choose to use.   You setup roaming by texting ROAM to 150 or you call customer service to have roaming enabled on your account.  This is usually done before you leave the UK.

Once customer service opens today you could use live chat via the my EE app to speak with customer service to request roaming be enabled on your account.  Make sure you state where you are,   As there is EU only roaming and then there’s global roaming

just to check have you tried restarting the device since you got there ?  Have you tried a manual network search?

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Regardless of any billing add-on, your ability to get coverage abroad (which calls, texts & mobile data rely on) is dependent on roaming being activated - which allows your phone to connect to foreign networks.

On PAYG, this is auto-enabled once your phone is used in the UK first.
On pay-monthly, this needs to be enabled manually - usually by texting ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK. Did you do this?

If you now find yourself abroad without having enabled roaming, your only recourse will be to contact CS to request it activated. You can either contact +44 7953 966150 from another working phone, or +44 800 0798586 using a web-calling app such as Skype over WiFi.

The biggest problem is trying to get through to EE customer service given that NZ is 13 hours ahead of uk but replies have been useful

Thanks
