I'm going to South America for 7 months so I rang and asked how much coverage I'd get. I got told I'd get no coverage and I'm best to buy a local sim so I asked if I could suspend my contract till I returned in that case and got told no, they only offer pauses for armed services. So asked to just cancel my contract (sim only) and got told thatd cost over £200! So I'm left paying for a sim I can't use... also asked if I could reduce the amount I pay and got told no. Not very helpful. Dont know what to do now

@AKRai South America is a very large area exactly where are you going ? You’ll get a working signal but you might have to pay for calls/texts and data separately to your tariff cost, but this depends on where you are actually going. And you have been told correctly you can terminate your contract and you will have to pay it off as you agreed to pay that contract when you took it out, and you cannot pause your contract as your contract is for a set period of time that you agreed to pay each month until the minimum term date. Your contract that you agreed to was for that tariff cost for the length of that contract period and EE are only enforcing your agreement to pay that contract price so you can not lower the tariff cost.

@AKRai : It's not quite true that you'll get no coverage. You can get coverage but you'll have to pay for it & you'll be limited by the Stable Link condition to 2 months.
As it is not in EU, you cannot use your usual UK allowances there but will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in e.g. https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/brazil .
If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

Hi @AKRai
You could transfer the contract to somone else (subject to a credit check) if you know someone who wants a new contract. Ultimately it's not EE fault you want to leave for 7months as you committed to paying a contract when you agreed to the terms and conditions.
As @Chris_B and @XRaySpeX you can still use the SIM for a limited period but make sure roaming, international calls and text are activated. If you have a dual SIM phone a local sim and your EE sim can be useful for UK based apps such as banking authorisation.
Thanks
