Re: Where is the Activate International Call and Text option on MyEE menu ?

I am experiencing the same problem as I changed to a new PAYG plan while abroad and no possibility to receive or make phone calls from the EU.

I thought there was a way to ask EE if they could activate it from them otherwise I guess my only chance would be to send my SIM card to someone in the UK and put it in a device so it self activates and then tell them to send it back to me.

It is correct to say that all new PAYG SIMs need to be activated on EE's UK network first, before they will work abroad.

If, when you say "I changed to a new PAYG plan" you mean that you converted from pay-monthly to PAYG whilst abroad, then yes - your "new PAYG SIM" will now need using on EE's UK network before you can use it abroad.

There is no workaround for this.

That is really the only workaround.  Just a heads up…it’s not enough just to put the SIM card in a device you have to do something chargeable, this would mean topping up and purchasing a pack or making a call / sending a text from the standard rates balance.

In reality the SIM is not new. The issue while I am still abroad was as follows:

- Initially I had a PAYG SIM using free EU roaming and allowance in the EU without a problem.

-I receive a phone call from an EE agent with an offer to transfer to contract paying a bit less and Theoretically keeping free  EU roaming intact as I made it clear I would only move to contract if I could use EU roaming free as I was doing with PAYG. It turned out the agent gave a false information the EU Roaming was not free ( It came with extra cost). I call 150 and they confirm my new deal had no EU roaming free and It came with extra cost.

-On the very same day, the only solution they give me is to go back to PAYG without confirming if I can use free EU Roaming while being abroad. I have no choice but to take it as I could not remain in that contract.

- From then my new PAYG pack and allowance is not working in the EU. I have filed a complaint but so far with no answer.

It has been an ordeal, especially when I have been loyal to EE from back in the days when It was orange so quite a few years.

I am completely disappointed that one EE agent giving wrong information has created such an ordeal and even more appalled that when this is EE's responsibility they have not been able to undo this mistake (I don't want to think It was "intentional").

All this after I came to Spain for my dad's funeral to be with my family.

So now seriously thinking about moving to another provider after so many years

Thank you to the community for all your support. I am still abroad not being able to communicate normally.

Yes, what has been said about activating a PAYG SIM while abroad applies to any change of the type of plan from contract to PAYG, or I think v.v., on the same physical SIM.

@sweetalabama , you are free to change to another provider, but you will still need to use the SIM card in the UK first, or whilst abroad, you could always get a local SIM card and use that there, if that is possible.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using Skype or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.
