I have recently bought a PAYG SIM for an elderly relative for emergency use only (as they are an infrequent user), but I have found that the PAYG SIM does not make/receive calls, whereas a pay monthly SIM in the same phone, in exactly the same location, can make/receive calls. Can anyone tell me why this would be?
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Hi XRayspex, it's me again.
I sent back the Doro 780x and ordered a Doro 6820 instead as that was easier to use and not as restricted.
However, I am having the same problem with the 6820 as I did with the 780x.
The EE PAYG SIM simply will not make a call, but it will send and receive SMS.
I've tried the same EE PAYG SIM in another Doro phone, a 7080 and it works in that phone perfectly, so it can't be the EE PAYG SIM.
I tried a EE paymonthly/contract SIM in the 6820 and it also could not make calls.
It sees the network perfectly, shows 4G and 4 bars of signal strength, so it absolutely should be able to make and receive calls.
I've had to email Doro Support but of course they're closed at the moment, so i won't know more until tomorrow.
I just thought I'd update you.
Kind regards,
Wildcat

Sorry to hop on and restart a solved thread, but I have just bought an EE PAYG SIM from EE and it does not appear to have VoLTE enabled. How do I get it enabled?

Update, the Doro 780x has been returned.
Bought a new Doro 6820 which I was led to believe had VoLTE functionality.
Turns out the EE PAYG SIM may not have VoLTE functionality!
Which brings me back to my original post, what's the difference between a PAYG SIM and a Paymonthly SIM - well it seems VoLTE may be the difference.

Does your phone support 4G Calling?
Full details can be found in our How do I use 4G calling?, Help page.
Thanks.

Hi there @Wildcat
Thanks for coming back to us.
4G Calling is available on pay as you go as long as the device supports this and you have 4G coverage in the area.
If this is not showing, please call us on 150 and the team will check the account.
Leanne 🙂

Hi @Leanne_T , yes, it is supposed to according to the literature and maual, Doro 6820, https://www.doro.com/en-gb/landing-page/back-to-basics/
And in the manual it says:
VoLTE
Set if voice calling over LTE (4G) network should be enabled or disabled.
This menu is only visible if your service provider supports the feature.
1. Press Menu Settings Connections VoLTE.
2. Check SIM to activate it.
Note! Your network operator also needs to support this feature.

Hi @Leanne_T , yes we have 4G and the phone (Doro 6820) shows 4G and 4 signal bars (max 5) and says EE network, and as previously mentioned the Doro 6820 does have the ability to use VoLTE but it seems the PAYG SIM I have isn't enabled for VoLTE? When I try to call 150 on it, it tries to call, but then says line busy and ends.
