I’m going to New Zealand to live and work for 3 years what do I do with my mobile

@Katykellaway   If you’re on contract you can use it for short stays abroad 2 months and any 4 month period,   The best thing you can do though is to pay off your contract to the minimum term date.  You’ll get a 20% reduction on the remaining term cost.  If you device is already unlocked you can use it with a local network operator in New Zealand.

EE plans are intended for UK residents & visitors who only make short trips abroad. To benefit from EE's roaming service you may only use your mobile outside the UK for no more than 2 months in any 4 month period. You may however use it on WiFi whenever you like.

@Katykellaway , if you want to keep your number, you can change it to pay as you go, but beware of the hibernation rules too and make sure you use it before going to New Zealand, otherwise you will eventually lose the number, and if not activated as pay as you go before going abroad, it will not work.
