Initiating roaming when already abroad

I came to Malta with my EE phone, and the automatic setting on my iPhone logged me on to a network called "epic".  I forgot to initiate roaming on my phone prior to departing the UK, and now have no means to text ROAMING to 150.  Any solutions out there?  Grateful for any help!

I will use my wife’s O2 phone which seems to work. Thanks everyone for the advice and help.
