I have been charged for picture messaging 89p each time,I haven’t sent any pictures as such but I sent fone number with a name is that classed as a picture message.?

@Kinsel912 : Yes, if you've sent text enclosing a Contact vCard (VCF) that counts as an MMS (Picture Msg) & is chargeable.

I can't speak for Apple, but on Android you get an on-screen notification of "converting to MMS" when you are sending content via an existing text window, that can't be sent via SMS.

Android phones can be configured to support the vast majority of emojis via SMS, but contact-info is one of the things that can't be done.
