Arrived in Munich and mobile data is not working!

Hi there, I have a UK SIM contract with EU wide roaming 100gb, have landed in Munich and it does not work at all. I’ve toggled a few network options and tried turning on / off Automatic and still get the “E” sign where normally you would see the mobile data network provider. Currently using WiFi on a train but. Why isn’t this working as it’s supposed to and how do you get it working? Thanks so much in advance, kind regards,  Trevor

@Wilki : Can you make calls & texts?

Are you on contract or PAYG? Had you used that SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad?

If you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

Trevor,

I’ve just been through a similar issue - driving to central Germany via France and Belgium - roaming data was fine until we crossed in Germany then only ‘E’ showing and essentially no data. Super frustrating especially as Google Maps obviously relies heavily on data. I tried all the usual things (many mentioned on other posts on this forum - eg checking obvious phone & account settings like roaming activation, roaming cost cap, automatic network selection etc.

The Silver Bullet for me was to reset Network Settings

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Before doing this it might be wise to make a note of important WiFi passwords (eg I was getting by at my destination in Germany by being on WiFi).
I hope that helps. I went from ‘E’ with zero data or patchy 0.05Mbps to 4G and 200Mbps
