I have 2 lines on monthly contract. I have asked again and again and again to have all account specific messages sent to one number, but still sent to the other line. For the 'best' network in the UK, is it that hard to control what number they are sent to. Any ideas would help?!

Depending what account-specific messages these are, you should be able to manage the primary-number either via your myEE online account or via CS on 150.
How have you previously made these requests?

Welcome to the EE Community
As mentioned, with most texts from us you should be able to amend the number via your online account. If you login and click the profile button in the top right and then click Personal details, check to make sure the contact mobile number is the one you want to use.
If it is in regards to billing texts, login on a browser and click Manage mobile, then click Settings and then Usage alerts to amend billing alerts to a number or e-mail.
If it is marketing texts going to a certain number that you don't want them to, give us a call and one of our guides can help update the marketing preferences.
