For sending texts, ensure your phone's Messaging app settings has the Message Centre no. setting for EE as +447958879879.

I can't even access the settings to change service centre kinda miss pre smartphone era when you could receive a text message and get the settings automatically sent and saved

It's the SMSC field.

Yes but it's shaded out/locked noting happens when click on it. I'll try calling 150

If the SMSc field is the culprit, this will prevent your phone from sending any text messages. 150 won't give any response because nothing's being received, because nothing's being sent. I would expect there to be an error message when you try sending text messages.
Just to be clear on the potential root of the issue.

Weirdly no error message. I didn't even know it had stopped working till got a angry phone call from my dad asking why I've been ignoring him. He's in his 80s and got sausage fingers so no hope of using a smartphone and he's only person I SMS
