no network coverage when putting EE sim into an unlocked phone

I've had to borrow a phone as my Pixel 4a screen fell out (i'm waiting for a new upgrade phone but that's another story - thanks DPD 🙄). I have tried the SIM in 3 different unlocked phones now, and every single one says no network coverage and emergency calls only. All these handsets I tried have been factory reset. It's currently in an iPhone XS. I've checked the status and coverage checker for my postcode and the type of phone and i should have service.

I've tried manually setting the network to EE in the mobile data settings. It knows there's an EE sim but is saying no coverage. It wouldn't have been switched off as I'm upgrading would it?

Any suggestions

Do you know any other friends or relatives locally, who use EE? Do they have coverage at the current time?

Yes - my mums on EE and it's fine. I've been trying for around 24 hours now with different phones and no luck

I recommend a 2-way SIM swap, putting a known working SIM in a non-working phone, and a non-working SiM in a known working phone.

See if the problem follows the phone or the SIM.
