I've bought my first 5g phone and an EE sim as the coverage map shows an abundance of 5g coverage in my area, albeit much outdoors only.
But I can't connect to any 5g at all, despite cycling around the area checking different places, clearly stated as having 5g.
What am I doing wrong? Or is EE simply telling porkies to get people onboard?
Phone settings are set to 5g/4g etc.
Thanks

PAYG will be the reason - you didn't mention and I didn't ask. EE don't support 5G on PAYG currently.
Although, I wouldn't be at all surprised if EE's 4G outperforms O2's 5G!

Do you know any other EE 5G users locally, who you could compare service with?
Is your phone otherwise working using 4G?

Yes phone is fine with 4g. Don't know anyone local on EE unfortunately.
I'm wondering if EE PAYG doesn't support it? I'm just on PAYG at the moment to decide it I want to move from O2, who don't claim to have any 5g around me.

Ah OK - didn't mention it as thought a SIM was a SIM! That would have been useful info for EE to provide.
Hmm, don't really want to commit to a monthly contract until I can check 5g!

A SIM is indeed a SIM. EE just don't offer 5G services on PAYG - there are other network-services only offered on pay-monthly too.
