I video call my partner on zoom every night on my android phone using ee data on 4G ( I have unlimited data). For the last week or so when we call, the signal drops completely to nothing (no bars and no 4G logo) and the call & audio freezes. This happens every few seconds. Strangely it seems to happen more when she is trying to talk to me, as if the audio usage is causing my signal to drop. It's very annoying. I have a Sony Xperia 1iii, there is no 5G in my area currently.

Hi @Captain-kidd have you tried calling on any other apps - Facetime / Messenger/ WhatsApp or others rather than Teams? Teams
Teams seem to use more bandwidth than other apps, so give some others a go, let us know how you get on.

freeze, the video was extremely low res with big dropouts in the sound.
This wouldn't explain when it had only got worse in the last week or so.

OK, maybe not, but maybe starts to narrow things down.
Have you checked Coverage Checker for coverage and status at both ends?
Do you have W-Fi you or her can connect to?

@Mustrum : Teams does seem more hungry than other video calling but Teams isn't Zoom. Zoom is reasonable on usage.

I'm minded towards this being a data speed issue, particularly if it's only started recently. Proving that could be tricky though, short of having historic & current speed test results.
Do you get the same problem in other areas, say a couple of miles away if that's possible?
