I've recently swapped to EE and using a SIM free pixel 6a but get no 5G even in places I apparently should.
My partner has a iPhone and gets 5G all the time. Is there anything I can check to make sure it's not a issue on my end?
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

I've managed to fix the issue now. It turns out if you have battery saver enabled on a pixel 6a you cannot have 5G at all.
Hope this helps anybody who has a similar issues

To use 5G services, you need.. 1: A 5G-compatible phone, 2: To be in 5G coverage, 3: To be on a 5G-supported plan.
You've not mentioned whether your partner is also on EE, that would affect point 2.
To check point 3, which plan are you on?

Thanks for replying.
It's definitely a 5G enabled phone according to the invoice I got from the bt shop.
Should have mentioned my partner is also on EE.
The app states my plan is 5G ready as well

Thanks @Chris_B
I couldn't find anything similar in option 1 on that page.
The second option showed unknown on preferred network type. I've set it to the recommended option and will double check tomorrow when I'm at work to see if 5G is finally available.
Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately no dice.
I've attached a screenshot of what the hidden menu says. From what I can see it's saying there is no 5G at all despite EE's coverage saying otherwise
