I have an iPhone 12. No problems at all until about 4-6 weeks ago. A few weeks ago it started occasionally saying “No SIM”, then turning airplane mode on and off would fix it. The problem happened more and more frequently, and eventually I had no network connection permanently. Restarting didn’t fix it, airplane mode didn’t fix it, reseating the SIM didn’t fix it.
I ordered a new SIM and had the same problem with the new SIM. I took my iPhone to an Apple Store and they ran diagnostics and factory reset my phone. Diagnostics said there are no hardware or software issues - no problem with the SIM slot.
after the factory reset the SIM worked for about a week. Now, the SIM has stopped working again. In my iPhone settings it said there was an EE SIM but “network: no network”. Now, a couple hours later, it doesn’t show the sim at all. But it does say “Available SIMs:” and lists IMEI1 and IMEI2 with some numbers/letters/identifiers next to each (I don’t know whether this means it’s picking up a SIM or whether it’s just saying there’s room for two sims (presumably one physical one virtual)).
The Apple Store said if the problem persists I should contact EE as they ran their diagnostics multiple times and found no problems.
Any suggestions?
[EDIT]
I just checked, and it turns out I was using my old SIM all along, not the replacement (I got mixed up when trying them both). But now I have the problem that my new SIM says "not provisioned" in iPhone settings, i.e., not activated. It should automatically activate but it hasn't. The alternative is to enter my phone number on the website with my old SIM in my phone, and they'll text me a PIN for it, or something. But that won't work because the old SIM isn't being picked up by my phone so I can't receive texts on it.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Hi @FichteFox
Welcome to the community.
If you speak to our Mobile Care team, they'll be able to register the new SIM card manually for you. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
Let us know how you get on.

They sorted it, thanks! They just had to deactivate my old SIM and activate the new one.
