Similar to other recent posts, there’s a loss of 5G coverage in NE4 9** . 5G had been fine since it launched here but it disappeared about a week ago (4G only now on both EE phones in the house).
Looking now, your coverage checker says 5g isn’t available in my postcode yet ( it was) but after two reports on the service checker I’m told there is no problem.
I would call but don’t have the time to wait on hold in the evenings and can’t use my phone for calls when I’m at work during the day. The lack of detailed information is a little frustrating (e.g. is it a permanent change in coverage or something that can be fixed).
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

It can vary depending on many things.
I often switch between 4 LTE-CA Carriers (2x 1800 MHz and 2x 2600 MHz) which appears as a non filled-in 5G symbol on a Samsung, and NR-NSA with an n7 (2600MHz) NR band and 2 LTE Carriers (2x 1800 MHz) which appears as a filled-in 5G symbol, even within my own flat.
Performance is similar on both.
At certain times I can also pick up an n1 (2100 MHz) NR band and 4 LTE Carriers (2x 1800 MHz and 2x 2600 MHz) which gives increased performance.
There can be any number of reasons for this switching.
In your case it just seems as though you can't pick up an NR carrier band in your location with the current mast configuration, particularly if that NR band is located on a further away mast (as is the case with my n1 connectivity) or one in a busier area struggling with capacity.
NR-NSA still relies on the existing LTE connectivity. If you have 4 LTE Carriers available to you using Carrier Aggregation, this performance can sometimes exceed that provided on NR-NSA.
Comparisons of "4G " and "5G" are often very subjective for this reason.
Even while typing this I have moved between each of these states, but at other times it is rock-steady on NR-NSA with the 4 LTE Carriers.

Starting to think they’ve changed the mast alignment. Really need EE to update the local mast (not even 100m away) into a 5G mast.
I presume when you say "mast alignment", you mean antenna alignment, not a whole tower structure being physically rotated.
Antennas will be carrying a mixture of RATs, and thus the coverage pattern of the whole site or sector (2G, 4G & 5G) would be altered. By the same token, there's no such thing as a 5G mast - there's EE sites which are equipped with 5G technology alongside 4G and also 2G.
A prime example of where loosely referring to "mast" can be misleading.

Yes I mean the antenna alignment.
Okay if you prefer me to ask EE to put a Phase 7/Phase 8 Monopole down the road then I will write it like this.
sorry for not being technical enough.
