Huawei CPE Pro will not connect to 5G

Hi

As EE seem to no longer be able to supply these 5g routers I have bought one that is unlocked for use on any network. I have a Pay Monthly 1TB 5G EE plan. I've tried the SIM in my iPhone 12 and it immediatley connects to 5G and I get really fast 5G upload and download speeds.

But when I put this SIM into my Huawei router I only get 4G. The 5G light on the front of the router is on (solid green) so I know its found a 5G signal and when I log into the router it shows me that it has detected a strong 5G signal, but when I go to

- Network Settings

- Mobile Network Searching

- Network Search mode (and set this to manual)

It only lists 4G Networks, there is no mention of the EE 5G Network that I know is available.

Have EE blocked 5G wifi routers that were not purchased from themselves?

Appreciate any help

Unfortunately it seems to be a very short-term fix as the router is struggling to get any 5G signal again.

I think this will be going in the bin and I'll have to buy something else although I note EE don't seem to sell anything that can be bought without a contract element and I already have a SIM.

Hi @Ascender ,

Do you have any other 5G device such as a mobile unlocked for the EE network so you can test if the issue is 5G signal or performance in your area, or whether the issue is with the Huawei CPE Pro?

There are a number of 5G routers available at the moment with prices between GBP 300 and GBP 700. I'm holding off at the moment because I don't have a requirement for 5G services and find that 4G LTE is fine. The 4G LTE performance on a mobile will give some indication whether it might be user congestion or a backhaul congestion issue.

Perhaps it's worth testing 4G LTE services on the Huawei CPE Pro and in a mobile to see if the performance is survivable? I find 25 Mbps is sufficient for 4K HDR streaming.

RSRQ -8.0dB

RSRP -95dBm  =  Rubbish signal

RSSI -65dBm

SINR -1dB = Really low.

my rsrp  usually - 80 dBm

Also read this on Huawei site.

  • The RSRP should be as close as possible to the range: -65 to -75. The closer the better.
  • The SINR should be a positive dB value. The higher, the better

The Signal Strength Info that you have posted there is for 4G only.

RSRP of -95dbm ins't great but still well usable. Your unlikely to get the RSRP any better than around -80dbm unless your sitting on top of a Mast.

Is the 5G led on the front panel on?

Mines flying. All lights on etc.

That info come from a 5g trouble shooting page(Huawei) ...so maybe ???   It is wrong ???

I get varied numbers. depends how the routers feeling.

These gave me a speed-test of 828.66 Mbps Down 55.47 Mbps Up 11 Ping.

The router is sitting on my windowsill wired directly to pc by cat c and i can see the tower picks the signal from. Going to try other places to get a better signal........
