Google Pixel 6a phone line issues

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone here has had issues with their Google Pixel 6a? Since receiving the phone, whenever I'm speaking on the phone the person on the other end reports various sound issues - sometimes an echo, sometimes just 'a very bad line', and sometimes simply a really loud awful sound! It's making the phone unusable for calls.

Previously I had a Pixel 4XL and never had any issues so wondering if this is a problem with the phone itself, something 5G related (although I have tried turning off 5G and it didn't help), or an EE/Pixel 6a compatibility issue. I've tested coverage in the area and it's always good-excellent.

Many thanks,

Kate

Hi EE,

I'm no further forward with this issue. Why is EE so reluctant to supply a new SIM to see if that solves the issue? I'm having to regularly terminate phone calls because the person on the other end is reporting such a poor line.

I've already contacted your mobile care team and their suggested fixes have not made any difference.

Please can a new SIM be supplied as a next step to (hopefully) solving this ongoing issue?

Many thanks,

Kate

Hi @kate148

I'm sorry to hear this is not resolved, you can order a replacement SIM card in your My EE account to see if this helps.

Please see our How do I swap my SIM or get a new SIM? Help page for details on how to order the SIM 🙂

Leanne.

After having the phone replaced twice by Google I gave up and got rid of it. I've now got a Sony Experia which works perfectly, using exactly the same SIM card. I don't think the SIM has anything to do with it, I think there's a fundamental incompatibility between the 6a and EE's network

That's really interesting, thanks so much for sharing your experiences. Could I ask if you attempted/were successful in getting any form of compensation from either EE or Google? I've been thinking I'm going to have to replace my phone but it's hard to swallow given how relatively new it is. I would have kept it for several years but it's simply unusable. I had to make several attempts at an important call yesterday and ended up using my partner's iphone because the line was so bad for the person on the other end.

So disappointing, particularly as I like the phone in general!

Unfortunately the Pixel 6 series has issues with the internal modem that are known to cause signal issues.

The best advice, as another member has suggested, is use a different phone.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues. I now believe mine might be down to a faulty microphone. The usual pattern is that I can speak for about 5-10 minutes (with the person on the other end reporting an echo) and then the phone becomes unusable. I can hear the other person but they can't hear me and we have to hang up. I've started using my partner's phone to make calls until I can find a window of opportunity to send the phone off to be looked at. Very strange!

Hope you manage to sort yours 🙂
