I recently purchased a Moto G55 G5 Android phone to take advantage of 5G coverage. However, I'm still getting the 4G symbol in the top right hand corner of the phone. Why?
Phone is running Android 15. I've gone into Settings and made sure Vo5G is on. Toggled airplane mode on and off. Restarted the phone. But no luck.
My contract was taken out 14 June 21. Pay monthly.

Hi @mapes12
Thanks for coming to our community.
Have you been using a 5G phone previously?
Ideally, the best thing to try would be a known working SIM in the phone, or your SIM in another 5G capable phone to identify where the issue lies. Is that something you can try?

Have you selected 5G in preferred network mode?

Thanks for your reply.
Have you been using a 5G phone previously? No. This is my first one.
Ideally, the best thing to try would be a known working SIM in the phone, or your SIM in another 5G capable phone to identify where the issue lies. Is that something you can try? I don't have access to another known working 5G sim card. I don't have access to another 5G capable phone.

Have you selected 5G in preferred network mode?
This is not an option in Android 15. The only option is to turn on or off Vo5G. I've turned this on.

I don't think I've seen an Android phone without this option. It's usually something like..
Open the Settings app on your phone.
Navigate to Network & Internet or Mobile networks.
Select your preferred SIM card if you use dual SIMs.
Tap on Preferred network type or Network mode.
Select the 5G (preferred)/4G/3G/2G (Auto) option or similar.

Mine goes:-
Settings> Network & Internet> SIMs & mobile network> and then I get the option to select my EE SIM card. If I click it I go to another screen where the options are:-
SIM name EE- No option to click this
Phone Number - No option to click this
Carrier EE - No option to click this
Mobile network EE - No option to click this
Roaming - I can toggle on or off. It's currently on
Carrier settings version (a long number) - No option to click this
IMEI (another long number) - No option to click this
Wifi calling - an option to turn on or off
Automatically select network - switched ON
Allow 2G - switched ON
Vo5G Use 5G for voice calls - switched ON
If I could post a screenshot I would but there isn't this option on this forum.

Here's what my Android 4G phone shows, and has done since Android 14.
The option to select individual RATs was removed quite a while ago - easily 18months and long since pre-Android 15
Screenshots & images can be inserted as below... They need to be manually approved before public view

Thanks for the reply.
How did you upload screenshots? I can't find a link on this forum.
What version of Android are you using. Mine is Android 15. As we know menu options change between versions.

What's a RAT please?
